Claude Watermark Remover: What Can Be Removed From Claude Output, and What Cannot
Updated September 2026
Anthropic has said in writing how Claude marks its output: an imperceptible watermark in the text of newer models, and C2PA Content Credentials on files. One of those is removable with proof. The other is not removable by any tool you can download, and a page that promises otherwise is guessing. Here is the split.
Quick answer
Claude output, layer by layer:
- 1Files (PNG, JPEG, SVG and documents): C2PA manifests and metadata. Removable. StripShot strips and re-scans.
- 2Text characters: hidden Unicode and typographic residue picked up in transit. Removable, listed, verified.
- 3Text words: the model-level watermark for models launched from August 2, 2026. Not removable by any character tool. Only rewriting changes it, with no confirmation. StripShot does not rewrite.
Summarized from Anthropic's help center article on how Claude marks AI-generated content.
What Anthropic says, and what it means
| Anthropic's statement | Plain reading | Removable? |
|---|---|---|
| Embedded text watermarks applied at the model level, imperceptible, survive copy and paste | A statistical mark in word choice, the same class as SynthID-Text | No |
| Weakened by paraphrase, translation, heavy editing and short outputs | Rewriting reduces detection confidence; nobody outside Anthropic can measure it | Only by rewriting, unverifiable |
| C2PA Content Credentials on supported files | A signed manifest in the file container | Yes, binary-level, verified |
| Third-party detection forthcoming | Until it ships, no outside tool can detect the mark | Not applicable |
| A mark means the content may have been processed by Claude | Proofreading human text can stamp it; the mark is not authorship | Not applicable |
What StripShot does with Claude output
- Files. C2PA, XMP, EXIF and document properties are removed at the binary level with no re-encoding and no quality loss. SVGs lose their metadata blocks and comments. The output is re-scanned.
- Text characters. Zero-width characters, directional marks, tag characters, odd spaces and look-alike letters are removed and listed. Emoji and complex scripts are preserved. The re-scan shows zero.
- Text words. Nothing. The writing-tells panel points at phrases and rhythm you may want to edit. Your edits are yours, and no verdict is offered.
Why we will not sell a Claude text watermark remover
Removing a model-level mark means paraphrasing the text with a different model, hoping the mark drops below Anthropic's threshold, and having no way to check. Meanwhile the paraphrase changes what you said, and a rewrite by another marked model can add a new mark. That is not removal. StripShot removes what can be shown removed, and states the rest on every page.
When this matters and when it does not
If you share a Claude-made image or SVG and do not want a platform to label it, stripping the C2PA does that. If you pasted Claude text into a document and it broke a search or a build, cleaning the characters does that. If you need text to pass a future Anthropic detector as unprocessed, nothing on this site or anywhere else can promise that, and where disclosure is required, the requirement stands regardless.

Frequently asked questions
Can a tool remove Claude's text watermark?
Not the model-level one Anthropic describes. It is applied while the model chooses words, it is imperceptible, and only a detector with Anthropic's key can read it. Character cleaners, StripShot included, do not touch it. Paraphrasing weakens it without proof. StripShot removes character-level carriers and file metadata, both verifiable, and says so.
Does Claude add C2PA to files?
Anthropic says Content Credentials are attached to supported file types Claude produces, such as PNG, JPEG and SVG. That is file metadata and StripShot removes it at the binary level.
Which Claude models are watermarked?
Per Anthropic's help center, models launched on or after August 2, 2026, with older models in transition, across the API, the Claude apps, Claude Code and related surfaces, worldwide. Policies change; check the current article.
Does a Claude watermark prove Claude wrote the text?
No. Anthropic's own caveats say a mark means the content may have been processed by Claude, which includes proofreading or translating a person's writing, and that no mark does not mean human-only.
Is my text uploaded?
No. StripShot scans and cleans in your browser and never sends text to a server or a model.
