Free AI Watermark Remover Online: No Upload, No Signup, No Re-Encoding
Updated September 2026
Free online removers usually mean one of two things: a demo that watermarks your output until you pay, or a form that uploads your file to a server you know nothing about. StripShot is neither. The full engine runs in your browser, scans are unlimited, and a few strips a day cost nothing. Here is exactly what that covers.
Quick answer
Free, in the browser, today:
- 1Images: EXIF, XMP, IPTC, C2PA, Stable Diffusion prompt chunks. JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG, HEIC, AVIF.
- 2Video: container metadata and C2PA boxes in MP4 and MOV. Frames untouched.
- 3Audio: ID3, APE and Lyrics3 tags in MP3; LIST, XMP and iXML in WAV; Vorbis comments in FLAC.
- 4Documents: author, company, editing time, session IDs, comments in DOCX, XLSX, PPTX; Info dictionary and XMP in PDF.
- 5Text: hidden Unicode, look-alike letters, odd spaces, with a highlighted view and writing tells.

Free online, three different ways
| Model | Where your file goes | What free gets you |
|---|---|---|
| Upload-and-process | Their server, often stored for a period | Usually a watermarked or size-limited output |
| Local scan, remote strip | Scan runs in the page; the strip uploads the whole file | A convincing preview and a paid button |
| Fully local (StripShot) | Nowhere. Bytes in, bytes out, in your tab | The full engine with a daily strip quota; unlimited scans |
The distinction matters more for this category than for most. The reason you are removing provenance is usually privacy. Sending the file to a stranger's server to do it defeats the purpose, and you have no way to know what they keep.
What free covers, format by format
- Images. The original StripShot engine plus HEIC, AVIF, GIF and SVG. C2PA comes out of JPEG APP11 segments, PNG caBX chunks and HEIF uuid boxes. Prompts embedded by Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI are removed with the tEXt chunks that carry them.
- Video. MP4 and MOV containers lose their udta, XMP and C2PA boxes, and the chunk offsets are rewritten so the file plays. Nothing is transcoded.
- Audio. Tag blocks are cut from the start and end of MP3s; RIFF and FLAC metadata blocks are removed or emptied. The samples are untouched.
- Documents. Office packages lose their property parts, comments and session IDs. PDFs lose the Info dictionary and XMP streams and get fresh IDs.
- Text. The glue-aware Unicode cleaner removes free-floating invisibles and keeps emoji and complex scripts whole. The writing-tells panel points at phrases; it never rewrites.
What free does not include, and why
Batch processing and zip download are Pro, because they are the workflow features. Nothing in the engine is held back. And nothing, free or Pro, removes SynthID from pixels, audio watermarks from waveforms or statistical marks from text, because no honest tool can, and the pages here say so in plain words.
How to use it
- Drop a file or paste text into the tool. The scan runs immediately and lists every trace with a severity dot.
- Read the list. You may decide the file is already clean, in which case you spent nothing.
- Click Strip. The re-scan runs on the output and strikes through everything that is gone.
- Download the clean file, or copy the clean text. Close the tab and nothing remains.

Frequently asked questions
Is StripShot really free?
Scans are free and unlimited for every format. Strips are free up to a small daily quota with no account. Pro removes the quota and adds batch processing and zip download. The free tier is the full engine, not a demo.
Do I have to upload my file?
No. Every engine runs in your browser tab. StripShot has no server route that receives file contents, which is different from most online removers, where the free scan is local and the actual strip happens on their server.
Does the free tool re-encode my image?
No. Metadata segments and chunks are removed from the container and the pixel data is copied byte for byte. Video and audio are handled the same way. Documents are unzipped and rezipped. PDFs are re-serialized, not re-rendered.
What can the free tool not do?
It cannot remove pixel watermarks such as SynthID, audio watermarks, or statistical text watermarks that live in word choice. No tool can do that honestly, free or paid, and StripShot says so rather than pretending.
Why is the daily quota so small?
Because the engine runs on your device, the quota is not about server cost. It is how the free tier funds the product. Scans stay unlimited so you can always see what a file carries before deciding.
