StripShot/Video AI Metadata Remover/Runway ML

RUNWAY ML

Remove Runway ML Video Metadata

Runway Gen-3 Alpha Turbo embeds C2PA Content Credentials in every export. Even videos you only edited with Runway's tools (not AI-generated from scratch) get labeled. StripShot removes the C2PA uuid box before you upload.

Supports MP4 and MOV. Files never leave your browser.

Gen-3 C2PA and Gen-2 software strings both stripped. Free.

How to remove Runway video metadata

01

Export your video from Runway

Download your completed video from Runway in MP4 format. Both Gen-2 and Gen-3 Alpha Turbo outputs are supported.

02

Open StripShot Video at stripshot.app/video

Go to stripshot.app/video in your browser. No sign-up needed. The tool runs entirely client-side.

03

Drop your Runway MP4

StripShot detects the C2PA uuid box in Gen-3 exports or the 'runwayml.com' software string in Gen-2 exports. Both are flagged automatically.

04

Download the clean file

C2PA certificate removed for Gen-3. Software strings stripped from udta for Gen-2. File is ready to upload to Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube without an AI label.

Runway Gen-3 vs Gen-2: different metadata, same problem

Runway changed how it embeds metadata between generations, and the difference matters for understanding what needs to be removed.

Gen-3 Alpha / Alpha Turbo

Embeds a full C2PA uuid box at the top level of the ISOBMFF container. UUID: d8fec3d6-1b0e-483c-9297-5828877ec481. Same UUID as Sora and Veo.

The C2PA certificate contains a signed declaration from Runway identifying the content as AI-generated. This is what Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube read to apply labels.

Gen-2

Embeds software strings in the udta atom: specifically “runwayml.com” in the ©too and ©swr child atoms inside moov/udta.

Some Gen-2 outputs also include XMP metadata with Runway references. No C2PA certificate is present in Gen-2 outputs.

StripShot handles both cases. For Gen-3, it removes the C2PA uuid box at the top level. For Gen-2, it removes the entire udta atom including all child atoms, and strips XMP_ boxes if present. Both operations leave the video codec stream inside mdat untouched.

Why editing tools trigger the same label as generation

This is the part that surprises most users. You do not have to generate a video from scratch in Runway for your file to get the AI-generated label. Runway's editing tools, including background removal, motion blur, color grading, and frame interpolation, all process the video through Runway's backend. When Runway outputs the processed file, it writes its metadata signature regardless of whether the source video was AI-generated.

The result: you upload a real video of a real event, run background removal in Runway, export it, and upload to TikTok. TikTok reads the Runway metadata and labels it as AI-generated content. The label is technically accurate about the processing, but not about the source material.

The fix is the same regardless of why the metadata is there: strip it before uploading. StripShot does not care whether the video was AI-generated from scratch or just edited. It removes the Runway metadata signatures from the output file.

FAQ

Does this work for Runway Gen-3 and Gen-2?

Yes for both. Runway Gen-3 Alpha Turbo embeds a C2PA uuid box (the same d8fec3d6-1b0e-483c-9297-5828877ec481 UUID used by Sora). StripShot removes it at the top level of the ISOBMFF container. Runway Gen-2 embeds 'runwayml.com' software strings in the udta atom inside moov. StripShot removes the entire udta atom.

I only used Runway for background removal. Will my video get labeled?

Yes. Any Runway processing, including background removal, color grading, motion blur, and other editing tools, adds Runway's metadata signature to the output file. It does not matter whether you generated the video from scratch in Runway or simply used one of their editing tools on existing footage. The output file gets Runway's metadata regardless.

What video formats does Runway export?

Runway exports MP4 (H.264) files. Some outputs may be H.265 depending on your settings. StripShot supports both codec streams inside MP4 and MOV containers.

Does this affect video quality?

No. StripShot operates at the binary container level. The video codec data inside the mdat box is never decoded or re-encoded. The output file has identical visual quality to the Runway export.

Ready to clean your Runway export?
