StripShot is built to be honest about what it does and what it cannot do. This page sets out the limits of metadata removal so you can use the tool with clear expectations.
What StripShot does
StripShot removes metadata from your files. It strips EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, C2PA Content Credentials, PNG text chunks, and AI generator signatures at the binary level, without re-encoding your pixels. All processing happens locally in your browser; your files are never uploaded to or stored on our servers.
File-level cleaning only
StripShot edits the metadata stored inside your file. It does not and cannot change how any third party, platform, or detector chooses to classify your image after you publish it. We remove the file-level signals; we do not control the systems that read them.
No guarantee of platform outcomes
We cannot promise that removing metadata will prevent or remove any specific platform label, suppression, or moderation outcome. Platforms change their detection methods, and many use signals beyond metadata. Removing the metadata-driven trigger addresses the common case; it is not a guarantee.
Pixel watermarks are out of scope
Some AI images carry an invisible watermark embedded in the pixels themselves, such as Google SynthID (used by Imagen, Gemini, and Veo). This is not metadata. No metadata remover, including StripShot, can strip a pixel-level watermark without degrading the image. StripShot does not claim to defeat SynthID, visual classifiers, or other pixel-based detection.
Lawful and honest use is your responsibility
You are responsible for how you use the cleaned files. Removing a file's metadata is a technical step you control, but how you disclose AI involvement when you publish may be governed by platform terms of service and by law, including the EU AI Act's transparency rules for AI-generated content (effective August 2026). StripShot is a tool, not legal advice. If you are unsure of your obligations, consult a qualified professional.
