Remove Midjourney Metadata from Images

Midjourney embeds your full prompt, generation parameters, and tool signatures into every image it creates. Anyone who downloads your image can extract your exact prompt, seed, and settings. StripShot removes everything in seconds.

What Midjourney embeds in your images

Midjourney stores generation data across multiple metadata fields. Unlike DALL-E, Midjourney does not currently use C2PA Content Credentials. Instead, it relies on EXIF and XMP fields to store detailed generation information.

EXIF Description field

Contains your full generation prompt. This includes your text prompt, any image references, and all parameters like --ar, --v, --style, --chaos, and --stylize.

Anyone with ExifTool or a basic EXIF viewer can read this. Your creative process is fully exposed in the file itself.

EXIF Comment field

Stores additional generation parameters including the seed value, model version (v5, v5.2, v6, etc.), and quality settings. The seed value is especially sensitive because it allows anyone to reproduce your exact image.

Combined with the Description field, the Comment field gives a complete recipe for recreating your output. This is a direct prompt theft vector.

XMP metadata references

XMP (Extensible Metadata Platform) data contains "midjourney" references in creator tool fields. Platforms and AI detection tools scan XMP data specifically for these tool signatures.

Even if EXIF is stripped but XMP remains, detection tools can still identify the image as Midjourney output.

Generation parameters

Beyond the prompt text, Midjourney embeds specific parameters: aspect ratio, model version, style weight, chaos value, quality setting, seed number, and any negative prompts (via --no). All of these are readable from the metadata.

Prompt theft is a real problem

When you share a Midjourney image without stripping metadata, anyone can extract your prompt and recreate your style. Prompt engineering takes time and skill. Protecting your creative work means removing generation parameters before sharing.

This is especially important for artists selling on Etsy, Redbubble, or print-on-demand platforms. Competitors can extract your exact prompts and undercut your work.

How StripShot removes Midjourney metadata

InstagramMediumScans EXIF for AI tool names. May add AI disclosure label.

Midjourney v5 vs v6 metadata differences

Midjourney v6 outputs higher resolution images (up to 2048x2048 with upscaling) and stores additional generation data compared to v5. The metadata structure is largely the same, but v6 includes extra parameters like style tuning codes and personalization data.

StripShot handles both versions identically. It removes all EXIF and XMP data regardless of Midjourney version, so you do not need to worry about which version generated your image.
